The First of Many

Several weekends ago my family and I got to share a mile marker event in a young boy's life. One year birthday parties are something we all hold dear for all of our children, but this birthday marked more than the average family should ever have to overcome. For my children's first birthday party I remember celebrating their first laugh, solid foods, first words, grandparents spoiling them, and hundreds of other first. This first birthday party was a celebration of more than remembering, it was a celebration of leaving something behind.......Cancer. Young Dylan was born with a tumor on his foot. Even with Doctors reassuring his parents it was something they would treat and watch, his Mother felt the need to push harder and find answers. Once the answer was found this family has gone through a year of obstacles, frustration, doubt and many more situations that I can't begin to understand.

I applaud this strong family. I applaud this brave Mother. I'm thankful we were able to be there and celebrate leaving things behind and looking forward to all Dylan is going to be.
